One of my annual highlights is drafting the annual iPhone Backup Extractor state of the union and compatibility report. I released iPhone Backup Extractor in 2008 after the release of iOS 2, which was a paid upgrade at the time. A lot has changed since then, but here it is for the 14th year: iPhone Backup Extractor supports iOS 15 and macOS 12.
We shipped a few tweaks in 7.7.33 last week for that:
It's that time of year again, and to prepare for the forthcoming release of iOS 15 here's iPhone Backup Extractor 7.7.33.4833 with full support for the very latest iOS 15 beta, along with some fixes for iOS 14.6.
Feature: Support for iOS 15 beta 2. This update fixes some issues with notes, voice memos, calendar, and messages extraction on iOS 15.
The last 12 months have been busy for us. We shipped an entirely new product and spent a lot of time reexamining the best way to ship high quality desktop apps across a number of platforms. That’s led us to hold fire on shipping iPhone Backup Extractor 8; at least, until we’re happy we’ve perfected the approach we’re using with Camo, and got a firmer handle on the right approach for Windows 11. In the meantime, we've not held back from shipping a bunch of updates to version 7 — and to the site and docs — and we’ve more to come. We were flattered to see Microsoft copy much of iPhone Backup Extractor's interface in their August 2020 update to Windows 10's "Your Phone" app, and that's only set the bar higher for us in version 8.
We also took the opportunity to go remote-first as a company. Whereas in early 2020, the team at Reincubate was largely based in and around London, we’ve since been joined by some incredibly talented colleagues around the world. Embracing the shift to remote has opened a number of opportunities, from guesting on WWDC.Community to engaging with groups such as LMUG.
Finally, I'm particularly proud of an iPhone Backup Extractor-related project we undertook last summer, where we took a series of deep dives into the UK's COVID-19 contact tracing app. This May the BBC followed up on peer-reviewed research showing that adoption of the NHS-X COVID tracing app prevented as many as 8,700 deaths. Our work— which was widely covered in the British press — undoubtedly shaped the narrative and represented one of the few positive British voices about the app, contributing to that result.
